AV Case Study: Pro Pickle Australia
The Bose Professional DesignMax Luna DML88P pendant speaker proved to be the perfect audio condiment for this Pickleball playground.

Pickleball, one of the world’s fastest growing sports, combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. Pickleball’s simple rules, gentle learning curve, and low-impact game-play make the game attractive to accomplished players as well as those seeking a strongly social experience.

LIKE A PRO
Pro Pickle, a dedicated pickleball centre located in inner south-western Sydney, opened for business in late 2025. The centre houses six indoor pickleball courts, event zones, a snack bar and amenities. There’s plenty of space around and between the courts – which allows groups to enjoy socialising and cheering on friends and teammates.
Founder David Nguyen, a former competitive tennis player and lifelong lover of racquet sports, discovered pickleball on an overseas trip. Invited to join a social game, David was immediately hooked. Returning to Sydney, he struggled to find a specialised pickleball centre. Pro Pickle is the answer.
David’s vision is that Pro Pickle will be a fun and dynamic centre that hosts players at all levels, from professionals to beginners. “It doesn’t matter where you come from, who you are, how old you are. Pro Pickle is a place to get on the court, have a hit and have a great time.”
Central to the appeal of Pro Pickle is its fun atmosphere – and David is convinced that great music is a key part of creating ‘the vibe’. He was looking for quality sound to ‘bring the party’ to singles nights, social play, glow-in-the-dark pickleball sessions and corporate events.
David approached the crew at Concept AV Australia in Sydney for an audio solution. The brief: quality sound at healthy volume, easy to operate, and solid value for a new small business.
Andrew Squillaciotti, Operations Manager at Concept AV Australia, takes up the story.
RIGHT IN THE PICKLE BARREL
“As soon as we came on site, we could see the challenge. It’s a huge, open space. It was immediately obvious that wall-mounted speakers would not suit the application. The sound would be too loud at the edge of the building and not loud enough in the centre. This is clearly the right application for pendant speakers.”
But not just any pendant would do. Andrew explains, “To cover the space with conventional pendants would take somewhere between 8 and 12 speakers – some of which would need to be dedicated woofers to deliver the required music quality. Two factors mitigated against this approach: challenging cable pathways and the need to minimise use of lifting equipment on the specialist cushioned sports floor.
“But I had seen an exciting new product on the Wesco Anixter display at Integrate 2025 – the Bose Professional DesignMax Luna DML88P pendant speaker. I immediately recognised that this could be the right answer for Pro Pickle.”

We can see much wider application for these speakers in warehouses, big box retail, gyms and sports centres across Australia

LUNA LANDER
The Bose Professional DesignMax Luna DML88P brings a very Bose take to the world of pendant speakers. As has often been the way with Bose products in the past, in this elegant pendant cabinet the company has implemented a proprietary Ring Array of eight two-inch drivers to provide very wide dispersion of the critical mid-high frequencies. An eight-inch woofer fires through the Ring Array to deliver clear and balanced sound down to 40Hz.
Andrew continues the story: “Working with Josh Shaw from Wesco Anixter, we modelled the 1500sqm space using Bose software, and could easily see that four speakers would provide the coverage we needed. We brought a demo unit to site and hung it from a scissor lift. David (the owner) was immediately convinced that the DesignMax Luna would provide the sound quality and volume he was looking for.”
The Concept AV Australia team locked in an installation date – which would be after the opening of the Pro Pickle centre (waiting for the speakers to arrive). But down-time was minimised because the installation of the four speakers to cover the space took place in a single day – much quicker than the three days that would be required for a larger deployment of more conventional pendants. Money invested in the big-brand premium loudspeakers was returned by way of lower total labour costs and reduced hire charges for lifting equipment.
PICKLE POWER
Driving the Bose Professional DesignMax Luna DML88P speakers is a single Bose Professional PowerSpace P4300+ power amplifier.
The PowerSpace P4300+ has all the DSP and control needed for the Pro Pickle system built in – including loudspeaker presets for the DesignMax Luna DML88Ps. One amp channel drives each loudspeaker – connected to the 8-ohm (transformer bypass) speaker input, in order to maximise power and performance.
PICKLE & CHOOSE
Quality of life for Pro Pickle’s front of house staff was also considered as Concept AV Australia finalised the system design.
Pro Pickle’s front desk is equipped with a Bose Professional ControlCenter CC2 zone controller, which is simple and intuitive to operate. A single switch chooses between two sources (wireless microphone or Bluesound Professional B100S streaming network music player), and a familiar volume knob does, well, what it says on the tin. Limiters built into the PowerSpace P4300+ amplifier render it virtually impossible for an over-enthusiastic (or under-skilled) operator to damage the speakers.
PICKLE PERFECTION
The Bose Professional system at Pro Pickle has been in place for a few months now. And the owner loves it.
“I couldn’t be happier, to be honest,” said David. “We have DJs in here sometimes and crank the system to its full potential. It sounds great and you can tell from the faces around the courts that people are loving the sound. We’re achieving our goal to make Pro Pickle a fun place to come to play pickleball, and to hang out with friends before and after a game.”
Andrew from Concept AV Australia is also impressed: “The Luna loudspeakers are doing a great job in this space. We can see much wider application for these speakers in warehouses, big box retail, gyms and sports centres across Australia. They are game-changers. They look great, sound great and are easy to install.”
