ACOUSTIC TECHNOLOGIES IN UQ

Built in 1886 and reopened in 1994, Brisbane’s Customs House is now operated as a cultural, educational and heritage facility of The University of Queensland featuring a licensed restaurant, function rooms and a UQ Information Office. The Function/Cultural Centre inside Customs House required an upgrade in its sound reinforcement system. As a heritage-listed building, no structural modifications were permitted. University of Queensland commissioned Peter Patrick of Scientific Acoustics to design a highly intelligible sound reinforcement system that would be sonically impressive, yet aesthetically discreet. Peter chose six Acoustic Technologies ALA16 FS line array columns and two MKB200 wall subs for the job. 16 channels of Powersoft Ottocanali DSP-controlled amplification allowed ultra-fine tuning of the arrays and subs. Offering complete and efficient coverage without impacting the architecture and décor, the unobtrusive enclosures were a perfect match in the beautiful Customs House interior.
